This hollow curio piece was inspired by the subtle colors and textures of the sealife that can be seen in Casco Bay, just a few feet under the water. Armed with only a snorkel and some patience, one can see an amazing world.
Hand-formed hollow porcelain piece, approx. 3 1/2 "H x 3" W x 1 1/2 "D. polychrome engobes, underglazes, glaze and luster.
This piece began as a single sheet of porcelain, rolled very thinly with a wooden dowel. Over the space of about 4 weeks, it took on its hollow shape, and was embellished with small forms and textures, which were then decorated with polychrome slips, clear glaze and finally, some luster.
